Michael Beckner Wants YOU for “Grant vs. Lee” Video!

Series writer and Executive Producer Michael Beckner just announced this on the official Facebook page for the series:

MFB here. In about a week, the creative team is traveling to a big meeting with the network. The unswerving support of this community has carried us over some rough spots and kept in focus that this is ALL OF OUR STORY we’re telling—past, present and future—and we’ve gotten to this place together!

It’s my intention to take that message along, AND AS MANY OF YOU WHO WANT TO COME ALONG, into this meeting with us.

How?

Well, some of our stars who are unable to be in the meeting are putting together short iPhone video comments to the president of the network. We’re going to put as many of you we can into that video with them…

So it’s VIDEO time! You have a VOICE and a FACE and we need them both!

Now is your chance to tell the network how much you want to see this series and why!

Get your phone up to your face or pull out that old dusty desktop cam. We can’t wait!

THE DO’S:
1. Make ’em short, short, short. :30 seconds to 1:30 minute is fine; it’s easiest for us to pull the best 5 – 10 second sound bite from something longer.
2. Be funny, be casual, be serious, whatever, just be you!
3. Do it solo, with a spouse a friend a relative, a child.
4. Pick an interesting background—inside, outside no matter.
5. Comment why you want to see this series, what draws you to it—cast, music, star, personal ancestry, importance to education, the political times we’re in today, why this is MORE THAN JUST TV AS USUAL: say anything you want!

ONE DON’T:
1. No costumes or Civil War props; this needs to be about us TODAY not YESTERDAY.

You may share your video by sending a link in a private message on this site. Or simply upload it to the community page. We will be editing this beginning tomorrow and locking it Thursday night.

So, there you have it. Here’s YOUR chance to play a crucial role in getting this series made! Make your videos and post them on the official FB page, or send them to me via e-mail, and I will get them to Michael. Don’t delay!

As I was born in Virgina with my ancestors traced back to the Civil War, the American Revolution and the Randolph family of Virginia and I am a current resident of Alabama, I will be watching this series closely in hope that the history will be accurate with the appropriate amount of artistry/drama. I really want to see this miniseries be more than just another For those who have not lived in the areas affected by the Civil War, it needs to be clearly understood that it is not about Grant vs. Lee at all. It would take too long to explain what I mean by that, therefore in order for ALL individuals participating in the development of this miniseries to really APPRECIATE what happened, it is important some of areas where battles were fought and study the history of this War Between the States or the Civil War. The reasons for bringing this country into this war are many and not just about Grant vs. Lee—more Americans lost their lives in this war than any war we have ever been involved in. Hopefully, I am misinterpreting this “Grant vs. Lee” title and the original title is still the same. Am I asking for the unrealistic? O.K., go to Shiloh or Gettysburg or another battlefield on a quiet day and be still as you read the history of the battle and take it in and you will see what I mean. Good luck and make good decisions. Thanks a million for the opportunity for me to put in my two cents. Have a good one, y’all.

I left a previous note and did not read it through carefully before posting. Oops. Let me clarify my incomplete sentences (my 4th grade teacher would have had a field day with this..)

1.All y’all go to one of the battlefields and visit on a quiet day and study some Civil War history. You will feel something that you can’t put your finger on and will away with a sense of being humbled.
    2. Don’t make this your normal garden variety miniseries with more fluff than history. You can do better than that.
    3. For the love, don’t change the title to Grant vs. Lee. The War was not about them and you know that.

    Thanks again.
